Broadmoor Golf CourseGolf Course

Broadmoor is this region’s only links style course and has no housing or out of bounds on any of the holes. Bentgrass greens, Bermuda fairways and bluegrass/fescue rough offer premium playing surfaces. The course stretches to 7140 yards in length from the gold markers, but also offers three other tee options – Blue (6569 yards) White (5881 yards) and Red (5082 yards). This layout calls for creativity and imagination that will require many different kinds of shots. From challenging carries over water, to low bump and run shots on some of our bunkerless greens, Broadmoor is a test of shotmaking abilities.

Since Broadmoor is a links style, mountain course, it seems there is always a breeze to contend with in the river valley!

Broadmoor is one of the few PUBLIC fee golf courses in western NC. Built in 1991 by legendary architect named one of the Fab Four by the PGA of America Karl Litten (others being Tom Fazio, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer). Litten also engineered the first grass golf course built in the Middle East (desert) in which the city of Dubai, Saudi Arabia was built around. Because of the migration of people to western NC and the demand for residential housing, Broadmoor is the last public fee golf course built in our region in the last 32 years!!!!

With the price of raw land and production costs, if we lose this community asset, there will not be another. Since its inception, Broadmoor has played over one MILLION rounds of golf to the middle class of western NC and the tourist coming to the area, producing over 30 jobs annually and creating sales tax for our community. A great venue for family and friends to have a life experience together in recreation, no matter what troubles are going on in their life. And now we see what a respite a golf course is during a pandemic crisis. One of only activities on can do. Over 75% of the golf course lies in a recognized FEMA floodway, (no building permitted) AND an FAA RPZ (Runway Protection Zone) trapazoid. This land is a protective buffer to the airport, that’s why many golf courses abut airports, from Miami to Las Vegas and beyond.

Broadmoor means BUSINESS! Many people think it’s just a golf course at Broadmoor, but it is so much more. Broadmoor has been a hub for countless companies over the years for regional meetings and outings. Ford International, Continental Teves, Borg Warner, Souther Farm Bureau, HomeTrust Bank, Biltmore Estate, WLOS-TV, Western Carolina University, UNC Asheville, Brevard College, Ferguson Enterprises, Eastman Chemical, just to name a few. Even the Fletcher Area Business Association (FABA) was born at Broadmoor in 2001. Many of the tournaments, like college and amateur, have 60 to 120 people over 3 days that book area hotel rooms and support our restaurants. And of course it is well known by area tourism that a golf package for stay and play in these mountains have show cased the region as a great place to live and been the vehicle for people to relocate here and drive the real estate market.

Broadmoor means CHARITY! Over its 27 year history, charity golf tournaments have raised millions, yes, MILLIONS of dollars for area charities, sheriff and fire departments, high school programs, the Red Cross, local church initiatives, etc. Broadmoor, the business itself has donated countless gift in kind donations and tens of thousands of cash donations over the years and employees have volunteered countless hours. Broadmoor’s clubhouse has even been used as an emergency church venue for two churches. Broadmoor was the first (and only since) non municipal golf course to invite the historical African Americans golf tournament, the Skyview Open play at its facility and has hosted many junior and women’s events as well, being the most diverse golf course in our area. In many areas a high school golf team has a dedicated home course, not in WNC because of lack of public golf.

Many junior and high school golf teams call Broadmoor home, even the Buncombe County HS championship is played there (in Henderson County) because no private club will commit to them in the spring. Many of these kids have learned and sharpened their skills at Broadmoor and earned college scholarships. Also, local colleges, Western Carolina, Brevard, Montreat, Mars Hill, and North Greenville have used the course.

BROADMOOR MEANS ENVIROMENT: In 2004 Broadmoor became the first Public golf course in the western Carolinas, East Tennessee and SW Virginia to become Audubon Certified, This means keeping the environment and animal habitat in mind and protected with all agronomic practices. The course is a 160 acre green space of refuge and home for countless species including bear, deer, egrets, herons, red tail hawks and yes, the American Bald Eagle. Broadmoor Golf Links did not file bankruptcy, the parent company, Warrior Custom Golf (club maker) and their total golf course portfolio did. Broadmoor is PROFITABLE and recognized as the leader in public golf in western NC.
